An internationally acclaimed dance performer, Amaya has danced all her life and in many facets of show business. In 1998, she won Dancer of the Year/ International Academy of Middle Eastern Dance Award (IAMED). Her Gypsy Fire DVD is the recipient of the prestigious Giza Award. On an international level, Amaya hosts an intensive but intimate retreat called the Wise Woman Retreat in New Mexico.

As a performer, Amaya's dance is filled with passion and fire, tempered with elegance and flashes of fun. Her dance is an unusual showcase of Spanish/Arabic styling with soul-stirring taksims (slow, dramatic dance). This fusion expresses the heart of Andalucia with the spirit of Arabia. She has chosen La Mora Gitana to describe her unique interpretation to this dance. Touching soul and spirit, her dance transcends time and place.

Amaya is coming to share her knowledge of Zambra Mora and Spanish Gypsy dance in addition to her other workshops. The workshops include Amaya Technique!, Gypsy Fire!, Hip Drills & Thrills, and a Master Class with includes business discussions.

Amaya will be teaching four workshops over the weekend

SATURDAY
Slayton House; Columbia, MD

  • Amaya Technique: Learn Amaya's Anatomy of a Belly Dancer - Technique for ALL styles of Belly Dance [10am - 12pm]
  • Gypsy Fire: Amaya fuses the Power of Flamenco with the Feminine Oriental Dance to create DANZA MORA! This beautiful and powerful dance will appeal to all dancers of all styles. [1:30 - 3:30pm]


SUNDAY
Studio MiaNaja; Columbia, MD

  • Hip Drills & Thrills: Exciting Hip Choreography. Develop a clean, crisp technique. Music & handouts available. Techniques usable by all styles of dancers. [11am - 1pm]
  • Master Class: Challenging Combos, Business discussion, Dance Values Clarification exercises. Important information for dancers of all styles. [2 - 4pm]


(Note: If you are performing Saturday night, and are taking the workshops, your ticket can be transferred to someone else.)


In demand as a Judge and emcee for competitions - such as Bellydancer of the Universe, Bellydancer of the Year, Double Crown and Ya Halla Y'all to name a few - Amaya is also available for private consultations and lessons for aspiring competitors or seasoned dancers looking to improve their performances and capture the crown!

The Gala Show that evening will have a Spanish/Latin theme, with dancers presenting the dances of various countries and islands from Spain to Puerto Rico, to Brazil! Preference for performance slots will be given to workshop registrants.
